The Reef – How it came to be…

Keith Krodel, Licensed Broker

Keith Krodel has called Brevard County home for 40 years. Keith began working as a teenager at The Crab Shack on Merritt Island, a job he held til he completed nursing school.

Throughout his life, two passions always rose to the top; fishing and real estate. In 1998, Keith and Debbie bought their first house together for $38,000 with a hole in the roof big enough to fit his first canoe. This would become the first of many real estate ventures for the couple. They went on to rehab numerous properties on Merritt Island doing much of the work themselves. Keith may not admit it but he become quite a good carpenter and a jack of all trades. By 2006, all of their rental properties had more than doubled which promoted them to sell most of the property allowing them to be debt free.

Complacency is not in Keith’s wheelhouse, so 2007 brought on a new venture – Assisted Living. Keith and Debbie would open their first 6-bed assisted living facility that would grow over the next decade into a 36 bed – Alzheimer’s Specialty Care Facility highly respected within the Healthcare community. This success can be attributed to their “whatever it takes” attitude of getting the job done right which set them up to sell the business in 2017.

Too young to retire, Keith asked himself, “Now what?” He decided to combine his passions which lead to opening Reef Realty Florida, Inc. When Keith is not at the office, or what his team calls “The Reef”, he can be found on the water trying to reel in a good catch. His knowledge of the local water ways, construction, investment properties and general real estate has given him a unique insight into Brevard county real estate market.
